Nothing brings people together like food and nothing brings food together like the World on a Plate Weekender. India’s biggest international food festival is finally coming to the city for the very first time and it’s not just the audiences that are excited. “Chennai is one of my favourite food cities and in fact, the entire state of Tamil Nadu has a very rich culinary history. I love the food there and its people,” says Masterchef Vicky Ratnani who is a part of the star-studded event line-up.

VR Chennai plays host to the WOAP Weekender by Gold Rush which will feature food pop-ups from Chennai’s best restaurants, with delicacies from cuisines scattered on a spectrum, from Pan-Asian to Mediterranean. Add live bands to the mix, and there you have it — a recipe for success. “We endeavour to bring alive our philosophy of Connecting Communities,” says Pankaj Renjhen, COO at Virtuous Retail.

Not only do you get to appreciate the culinary genius behind the food on display but don the chef whites yourself. At the heart of this WOAP food tornado is the Taste Theatre — a dream masterclass with global food icons, chefs Vicky Ratnani, Sarah Todd and Saransh Goila. Watch and learn as the master chefs lift the lid on a pot of experience, rich with accolades from royalty, travel and competing against the finest.

"Inspired by the flavours of Chennai, I will be doing my take of the South Indian festive dessert, Boli. I’ll be serving it with charred pineapple, spiced rum caramel and a thickened cream as well. It’s my version
of an upside-down pineapple cake"

- Sarah Todd, Celebrity chef

The World on a Plate event has changed the name of the food game in India, with the previous three renditions being held in Mumbai and Bengaluru. The Godfather of cooking, British Chef Marco Pierre White was in the country earlier this year as he hosted the two-day event in Bengaluru and led food enthusiasts in a masterclass. For those who closely follow the Michelin food guide, it’s exciting news as India might finally get its own with the World on a Plate guide that is currently in the works.

At VR Mall. On November 10.  Starts at 10 am.
