Here’s how feng shui can enhance your shopping experience

Adapting the right feng shui is the key to success and when it comes to display windows in retail stores. And the practice most definitely helps in attracting prospective customers. In present day shopping malls, it is a common sight in cities to have many retail outlets selling specialised ware, but not all of them have the same business turnover. A better feng shui energy in a retail space will attract more customers, more sales and even propagate a better mood for the people who work in the store.

For many, shopping is a weekend activity and time to relax and be with the family while just gazing into the display windows. But shopping is also an emotional experience as we buy things to make us and our loved ones feel better. In other words, we are shopping for an experience, not just a particular item.

Inviting energy
To make customers feel good and enhance the shopping experience, retail stores can adapt some feng shui basics to transform the feel of the place into a vibrant energy. Most importantly, good feng shui does not mean decorating with oriental looking items but creating energy that feels good, looks good and works for the purpose of a given space. On a subconscious level, we are all attuned to the feng shui energy movement and react to it accordingly.

The energy of your store is felt even before customers decide to enter, hence stepping outside your store and taking a good, fresh look at your main entrance and your immediate surroundings will give you a clue. Does your outlet stand out and if you were to see your store for the first time, would you find it inviting?

Good vibes
Good energy enhances the feel of your entrance, hence a clear presence, which includes a clean, crisp store name, well-lit and fresh window displays, appropriate colours relating to the door direction and building and environment have to be chosen.

Once the customer has stepped into your store, does it create a feeling of disinterest although you have the best of products and stocks? The important thing to understand is that you need to create pathways for the feng shui energy to flow, you need to direct the energy to create a pleasant experience and draw customers in, then help them explore what you have to offer by themselves. This means designing several different pathways in your store, not just one straight line from beginning to end, creating several independent areas with different energies.

What to avoid
Avoid things like a big mirror directly facing the entrance, open trash cans in plain view, exposed electrical cords, boxes, fluorescent ceiling lighting , stale air or strange smells and finally, do not make your overwhelm your customers with a feeling of ‘too many staff members’ with no breathing space and time to decide on what they want. Try to spread out your products or pair them in unexpected ways. And watch as your sales soar.
