Single malt industry for over two decades. Apart from travelling to 78 countries across six continents, to talk about scotch whisky, he has even mentored football ace David Beckham about it while setting up the Scotland-based Haig Club — the Single Grain Scotch Whisky in partnership with the latter and British entrepreneur Simon Fuller. “David is kind and often credits me as having mentored him on Scotch, but in fact he has also spent a considerable amount of time with our distillers, blenders and maturation teams in Scotland, learning every part of the process,” says the single malt enthusiast.

However, his interest in single malts was piqued long ago after he was introduced to legendary scotch whisky, Lagavulin, by his father while on holiday at Islay, Scotland. Ewan says he enjoys his glass of whisky in rather unusual ways and loves “combining it with local ingredients”. He mentions that the Old Fashioned with Johnnie Walker Black Label was one of the first few cocktails he tried to whip up!

Johnnie Walker Black Old Fashioned

Ingredients:
Johnnie Walker Black Label: 50ml 

Angostura Bitters: Just a few drops

Sugar cube: one 

Orange peel: peeled from one slice

Ice: A few cubes

Method of preparation:
■     Place the sugar cube in a rocks glass or tumbler and add a dash of bitters.
■     Muddle them together using a muddler or the back of a spoon until the sugar has dissolved.
■     Fill the glass to the brim with ice and then add 50 ml of Johnnie Walker Black Label.
■     Stir for a couple of minutes until the ice has chilled the drink and diluted it a little. Garnish with the orange peel.
