Schools are all set to welcome the students back after a really hot summer. And the children are enthusiastic as well, set to merrily walk to their classrooms and meet new friends with fancy school bags and vibrant umbrellas. But, of course, not all children are as privileged as others. And this is where Project Hope steps in, aspiring to make a change. As this academic term opens, a group of young volunteers from Thalassery and Kochi are prepped up to find these needy children and gift them each with a school kit including books, bags and uniforms.
Butterfly effect
Project Hope—which aims to incite people to join them and ‘Be the Sunshine in Someone’s Life’—is the brainchild of a few youngsters from Thalassery, who wish to stay anonymous and let their actions do the talking. Neither do they hold any publicity campaigns, nor do they receive any funds through advertisements. This initiative functions solely through donations from well-wishers, who mostly reach out to them through social media. Three years since their inception, the foundation now has hundreds of volunteers from all over Kerala, who devote their free time to help the less fortunate.
The study kit distribution here in Kochi this year will be for the students of Snehakoodu—a home for underprivileged children in Aluva. “Theirs is an excellent initiative and largely beneficial for institutes like ours that run solely by public help. This will be a great relief for our children who’re heading back to school and would definitely bring smiles to their innocent faces,” responded Father Joy Ettuveettil, manager at Snehakoodu.
