This Sunday, don’t be surprised if you hear echoes of laughter from the Sir Mutha Venkatasubba  Rao Concert Hall. As a part of the first OML Headliners show, the city will host two Bengaluru-based comedians, Kenneth Sebastian aka Kenny and Naveen Richard. Known for their observational humour and original content, these comedians have already carved a niche for themselves in the comic fraternity within the country.

Coming up first on stage will be Naveen, who began his journey in 2012 after making it to the finals of
the Comedy Central Indian Comedy Festival. Describing his upcoming act as ‘clean, silly and hilarious,’ the 26-year-old says, “There’s never a particular theme in my shows. It’s just all the new material since the Amazon specials. Stuff that the audience hasn’t ever heard before. So it’s going to be exciting for both them and us.”

He is joined by another Malayali comedian, Kenny, who is also a filmmaker and musician. About his act, he says he doesn’t have to look for jokes and that his surrounding is his primary source of material.

“Everything I write is directly influenced by what happens to me in real life. From my parents to friends to eccentric civilians, I find great joy in finding inspiration from people around me. Right now, being single is a big inspiration for all my current jokes,” says the 26-year-old, who describes himself as a ‘professional happiness manufacturer, who also does stand-up comedy and straddles the guitar.’ About his show this time, the comedian, who has completed over 1,000 shows says, “I will be performing my latest jokes post my Amazon Prime special Don’t Be That Guy. I will be focusing on my recent stage of being single, and the perils and hard work of dating.”

A graduate in painting from Chitrakala Parishath, Bengaluru, Kenny has a bunch of international shows lined up in the coming months. When asked him about his future plans, he says, “Right now, I’m writing an eight-episode sitcom/comedy series for Amazon Prime. Tune in for that soon.”

Naveen and Kenny have also been doing a lot of online content in the recent years. When asked about the role of the digital medium in stand-up comedy, Kenny opines, “In India, social media is the single biggest reason for stand-up comedy’s meteoric rise. From YouTube videos of stand-up clips to big global content platforms now entering the market, the internet has boosted it even more into the mainstream. Amazon Prime has revolutionised the Indian comedy scene with 14 specials being released this year. It’s making stand-up comedy a dominant player in the digital entertainment field alongside TV series and movies.”

The duo will be seen at the Headliners by OML. At Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall.
