FaceApp not a safe app?

UK Cybersecurity officials caution people, meanwhile Indian users seem to be getting blocked from using the app

FaceApp, the photo editing app that has gone viral because of its aging feature, might not be the safest to download. Cybersecurity officials in the UK have warned Brits about the app saying the app's Russian creators might have too much access to photos on users' phone.

Although FaceApp was built in 2017 and was popular, it wasn't trending till two days ago when images of celebrities looking older surfaced on the internet.

Since then, many users have been posting images of their older self on Instagram and other social media platforms.

However, to use the app, people need to grant permission to FaceApp to access photos and the rules and regulations regarding this do not display on the screen, therefore giving the developers more power over individuals' photos.

But security experts have warned that the app's terms and conditions (which aren't visible inside the app) give creators rights to your photos forever.

Meanwhile, in India, the app seems to be blocking users many of whom reported it on Twitter. However, there has been no statement from the developers regarding this action. "Something went wrong, Please try again," is the message that appears on screen when someone tries to use the app from India.

iOS users are getting a different message that says, "ApiRequestError error 6 - Operation couldn't be completed". As of now the developers behind the app have not responded to whether the app is safe or not, and to the 'blocked' messages to Indian users.
