As climate change is becoming a reality with every passing day, citizens are finding ways to do their bit to help save the environment. However, not everyone knows and understands how to go about doing their little bit towards Mother Earth.
For such citizens, Beforest, a community-based holistic sustainable farming initiative, is hosting a three-day experiential workshop on a five-year-old functional Permaculture Farm. Participants will be introduced to regenerative agroforestry.
Those who are wondering what regenerative agroforestry is, here's what it means: Regenerative agroforestry is an approach to ecological restoration which uses natural forests as guides to create ecologically stable and socio-economically productive landscapes. These complex land-management systems intentionally use agriculture with tree systems integrated with animals to create holistic ecosystems that mimic nature, minimise external inputs while building resilient and productive landscapes that foster many ecological functions. These systems aim to build soil, enhance biodiversity, conserve water and topsoil while producing food. These integrated systems are financially more viable and can help mitigate climate change assuring yields and livelihoods.
Topics like dynamic, successional agroforestry and analog forestry practices, and permaculture ethics, principles, design and practices will be covered in this three-day workshop. The workshop will be conducted by Roman Eisenkoelbl, a semi-nomadic Tree Planter,Soil Builder and Seed Disperser who has been studying and living in Permaculture Projects and Communities since over nine years. Roman has lived, worked and learned in places like East Africa, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Australia, the Caribbean, South and Central America, Portugal and Spain.
He will be assisted by Asanga Namal Jayasinghe and Malvikaa Solanki, both permaculture practitioners.
