Unlike her onscreen self that is without inhibitions, layered and sublime, in real life, Radhika Apte is simple, awkward while faking a smile and at peace when with a good cup of tea. The actress who is in the middle of shooting the final leg of Pad Man with Akshay Kumar is clearly amused when asked about the rumour that she is taking a sabbatical. Steering clear from queries about her current movie, the Pune-born actress lets in that there is a new untitled project in the works. The 31-year-old beauty is charmingly unassuming and insists that she has no fixed beauty regime, orders books from Amazon and will never agree to an open mic. “It’s all about how you feel on the inside,” she says. We find out that the actress likes to keep things comfortable and has a penchant for heavy ethnic jewellery.

Printed word

While she might not try her hand at writing anytime soon, the actress is an avid reader. Currently reading Miranda July (No One Belongs Here More Than You), Apte says,“The book is dark and depressing and I love it.” A series of vignettes, the book is about lonely characters who try to seek out companionship with others, often through bizarre encounters. Rs 553. Available on amazon.in

Clean act

“I try and remove my mascara before sleeping. Most of the time I don't use many products on my face and prefer to let it breathe. Since my skin is dry, I try and use a moisturiser or a remover that contains some amount of oil to keep my skin hydrated.” We think this Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm fits the bill. Gentle on the skin, the remover dissolves into a silky oil on application and gets waterproof makeup right off.

Coming up roses

If you are looking for a scent that makes you feel beautiful yet playful, try out Radhika Apte's go-to fragrance. “I usually don’t use perfumes. But, when I feel like I need it, I use Romance.” A classic from the house of Ralph Lauren, Romance comes infused with a rose blend with citrusy oils. Rs 6,150 approximately. Details: amazon.in

All or nothing

“I’m not really an accessories person. If I’m wearing something, I like to keep it very simple. Like a gold choker with a small pendant. But, if I am really in a mood to dress up I'd go all out and pick up an embellished earring from Amrapali,” says the Kabali actor. We pick the gold-finished silver chanbali earrings - studded with green and red onyx stones and set with crystals and pearls around the edges from Tribe by Amrapali. Rs 15,000. Regal conquest

“There is no mid-ground when it comes to my dressing as well. It's either minimal or has to look like an heirloom piece.” The actress tells us she would pick Anita Dongre for her desi fix. This golden A-line jacket with a plunging neckline comes with flared lehenga complete with gota patti, sequin and zardosi work. With a generous use of soft tissue sporting floral and deer motifs, this regal piece will make a statement. Rs 4,75,000. Details: perniaspopupshop.com

Class act

For a night out, Apte chooses Vivienne Westwood as her favourite international designer. “I love short dresses. Her clothes are very sleek, comfortable and well fitted.” This Bronze Joan Dress from the designer’s Anglomania collection could be a conversation starter. In line with the actress’ love for the colour black, this sleeveless lacy dress has a square drape neckline, a fitted skirt and offers a perfect fit - best complemented by a pair of black ankle-strap heels. Rs 1,28,340 approximately. Details: net-a-porter.com

Lady in white

Though we do love the Steve Madden nude ankle-strap heels that she wore for the event in the city, the actress says she does not wear heels too often. “I like my Converse shoes, any day.” From having paired them up with distressed jeans to finishing off her Pero stripped cotton jersey pant look, the Classic Chuck Taylor All Star white sneakers seem to be the celebrity’s favourite footwear staple. Rs 1,819. At Express Avenue Mall. Details: 28464072

On the run

As for her workout routine, Radhika Apte likes to work up a sweat running and with yoga. “I try and eat healthy, that’s the most important fitness regimen.” She also tells us that she is trying out hydrotherapy to keep things fun. “I’m waiting for my foam dumbbells to arrive. I plan on starting my routine as soon as they arrive. It’s all up to Amazon now," she says with a laugh. Water dumbbells at Rs 1,350 onwards. Details: amazon.in
