Hyderabad's popular band Flint & Benji gear up for their upcoming show
Mashup as a trend is catching the fancy of musicians across the city. Among them, is Flint & Benji, a city-based band who are gearing up for their performance at Up & Above this Saturday. The trio has had more than 500 performances across Chennai, Bangkok, Pune and Hyderabad, of course.
The three-piece band is known for attracting people of different ages with a mix of Hindi songs – old and new. “I think that’s the power of music. We also enjoy mixing retro and present songs, which suit audiences of all kinds,” says Flint Eastwood Thomas, the lead singer. Ask him if he did any studying and he quickly adds that the idea of a musician being uneducated is false and funny. “People are always surprised that I graduated, even more when I say my subject was psychology,” shares the 23-year-old. Also a lyricist, Flint has written about 15 songs and has produced three.
Besides Flint, the band comprises Benjamin Charles playing the drums and Sai Vikas on the lead guitar. Formed in 2016, the trio aims to do something new in the city’s mashup space. “Our tunes are usually 80 per cent Bollywood and 20 per cent English. However, we do change this structure depending on the audience,” says Flint.
The band is currently working on a single dedicated to the city, Hum Hain Hyderabadi, that will be released later this year.
Entry free. On September 26. 8 pm onwards. At Up & Above.
