Monica Dogra’s upcoming EP is a complete departure from her solo album Spit released a year ago. “My new EP, Seeing Red, is global bass with a mix of trap and hip-hop,” says the singer. She will be performing a brand new set with songs from this EP in her gig this weekend.

Earlier this month, she dropped her single, Naraye Mastana. When asked about the conception of the song, she says, “I had the opportunity to reimagine the classic song by Abida Parveen so I grabbed it.
It perfectly encapsulates my relationship with art and the divine.”

Monica has been in the news for being a judge on season three of The Stage, a music reality show, “The Stage 3 is bigger and better than ever. The artistes all have incredible stories and exemplary star quality.”
Bengaluru-based rapper Smokey the Ghost will be supporting the gig. The self-described socio-conscious rapper has lent his voice to songs from movies such as Chennai Express and Detective Byomkesh Bakshy.

“I’ll perform a set about where I’m from. I find it really hard to establish an identity of where I come from, because it has been diluted by overarching propaganda, be it colonial or political. I feel what truly binds us is recognising that we are human above everything else,” he says about his performance.

Entry free. Tomorrow, 9 pm. At The Humming Tree, Indira Nagar. Details: 9886618386
