The Night of the Nominees 2018 is a concert where the shortlisted nominees of the Toto Funds The Arts music award come together on stage. The three shortlisted artistes this year are Mumbai-based musician and composer, Rohan Rajadhyaksha, Delhi-based rapper Prabh Deep and Bengaluru-based electronic music producer Jayanth Ramachandra aka The Sine Painter.

Rohan who is a singer, songwriter, composer and pianist says his music is heavily influenced by R&B. He says, “I have a wonderful band with me, comprising Amandeep Singh on guitars, Abhinav Khokar on bass, Vaibhav Wavikar on drums and Ankit Dayal on backing vocals and percussion. Together, we will be performing new material that I will  be releasing over the course  of 2018.”

Prabh Deep raps in Punjabi about social issues. He will perform his album Class-Sikh, along with a couple of unreleased singles. “We submitted the first three singles off the album — Kal, G Maane and Kal (Future) for the awards. These songs were written as part of the overall narrative we wanted to explore for the album. There wasn’t any other goal while writing them except to tell the story that we do in the album,” he says.

The Sine Painter makes experimental club music that he describes as cinematic, cyberpunk, hyper-digital,over the top, and emotional. “I will be playing a set of all my own productions, remixes and collaborations. It will be a mix of ambient and abrasive club music,” he tells us. He also works with video and will be incorporating this element into his set. The award ceremony to announce the winner is on the following day at Alliance Française.
