GoMAD: Switcheroo on their new album and their tour

This Bengaluru-based band tells us why heavy music isn't about being angry or wanting to flip tables

1. Your songs attempt at inspiring hope and a common misconception is that many people associate heavier sound and metal or nu-metal are stories with dark elements. How did you develop an appreciation for something that is inspirational/ uplifting?

Well to be honest, we don't consider ourselves as a metal or nu-metal artist as such. More as an Alternative Hard Rock act. I think people associate heavier music with things such as being angry, and wanting to break things or flip tables all around. But what people don't understand, that the people who are writing the heavier types of music, are more than often the more gullible, fun to be around, energetic people. It’s a type of music that is meant to bring up the energy levels in the room as soon as you listen to it and hoping that everyone goes back feeling fresh and happy at the end of the day. We, as a band have always tried to address issues as to why it's important to always be happy, thinking positive and being thankful for the things you have and experience rather than for the things you're not happy about.

2. You've been touring quite a bit. Your 'Enslaved by The Establishment' tour took you across the country. Did you get a chance to meet or jam with any musicians you admire?

Yes, that tour brought us together as a band like nothing ever could. On the road together for a whole month straight, was a surreal experience to say the least. Throughout the tour we played with some exceptionally talented artists at our shows, such as Last Remaining Light (who are one of my all time personal favourites), Lightyears Explode, May Island and many more. As far as the tour goes, that's about it. After the tour, we were busy with the 'Nitro Tour of India and Nepal' where we got to meet and work with some of the worlds best musicians and are already living legends in the eyes of hundreds of thousands of people across the globe such as Chris Adler (Lamb Of God, ex-Megadeth), Matt De-Vries (Chimaira, Fear Factory), Jim Gillette and the one and only Michael Angelo Batio! Big learning experience seeing the work they put in day in and day out even at that level.

3. When can we expect the release of the new album? Do you have a title for it as yet?

We're currently looking at finishing up the album by the summer end, and hopefully having it released as soon as possible after that. We're currently using Enslaved by the Establishment as a working title. It may stick, it may not. What 'Enslaved by the Establishment' basically is meant to address is to how a person should always follow their dreams, hopes and passions rather than losing their identity by giving into, what we like to call - Corporate Slavery.

4. What will you be playing at GoMAD? Will there be songs from the new album?

Our set will feature a list of songs throughout the entire discography we have written from inception till date. Some crowd favourites, some new ones we've been working on as well! YES! We definitely do want to give a few of the tracks off the album a whirl to see how crowds are reacting to them, which can help us decide our selection of tracks for the album, since we've currently got about 8 or 9 to choose from a possible 25 tracks.

5. What's your favourite thing to see when you look in the crowd during a live show?

Two things. Always. During some of our more emotionally fuelled tracks, those torches, phone lights and lighters in the air are always incredible to look out into! Second, the crowd going bonkers jumping up and down and singing it back to us louder than we can hear on stage!

6. What’s does 2018 have in store?

A lot more media content, Lot more live shows, bigger tours, following on, on some massive prospects and opportunities that have been presented to us from across the globe, and of course, the album.
