What do you first think when we say Avial? If not the famous South Indian dish, but the song Nada Nada is what comes to your mind, then we have some good news for you. After a wait of a couple of years, the Malayali band, helmed by Tony John (vocals), Rex Vijayan (guitars and synth), Binny Isaac (bass) and Mithun Puthanveetil (drums), will make its way to Hyderabad tomorrow.
Avial had their first breakthrough with the 2003 single Nada Nada. The alternative rock band Avial has had then zoomed into the collective consciousness of indie music lovers with their improvised Malayalam folk songs. Exactly a decade ago, the four-member outfit released their self-titled debut album, which is timeless for its genre-blending music. “The album is close to our heart and we’ll be playing improvised version of songs from the same in Hyderabad,” shares Tony, adding, “We are indeed coming to Hyd after a long time. Every state has a different vibe and audience but we’re excited to get Hyderabadis grooving.”
What adds to the theatrical performance of the band are their expressions and inimitable energy. However, Tony is rather modest when he says it’s all about ‘going with the flow’. “Since we mostly sing in Malayalam, we wear mundu that adds to the local vibe we aim to create through our performance,” he adds.
