In 2005 Paul McCartney wrote a children's adventure novel, High in the Clouds. The novel will now be adapted by Netflix and Gaumont as an animated feature film. The movie will be directed by Oscar-nominee Timothy Reckart known for the 2012 animated movie Head Over Heels. The screenplay is by Jon Croker who also wrote for Paddington. And of course the original songs and music for High in the Clouds will be by McCartney himself.

The story of the children's book follows an imaginative adolescent squirrel named Wirral. He falls in with a group of teenage rebels that led by the tyrannical Gretsch the owl, who is also a singer who steals other singer's voices. The novel has a larger theme of preserving nature and letting animals live freely and in their natural habitat. The Observer was described it as "a tale about the perils of unchecked global capitalism".

A magazine reported McCartney's statement about the adaptation: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Netflix. They complement what is already an amazing team with Gaumont and we can think of no-one better to be working with to bring our film to a global audience. I’ve always loved animated films and this is a hugely important passion project for me. I can’t wait for the world to see it."
