A hundred member orchestra from Hungary alongside music industry veterans Mano, Bombay Jayashri, Usha Uthup, KJ Yesudas— Ilaiyaraaja’s debut concert in Coimbatore promises to recreate nearly five decades worth of musical memories in one night. And from the look of the hoardings that line city’s streets and the recently concluded Isai Celebrates Isai concert that took place in Chennai on June 2, the Coimbatore concert titled Rajathi Raja will also mark a restored friendship between the Isaignani and singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, following their widely discussed rift in 2017.

With the Codissia ground playing host to Rajathi Raja, organised by Arun Media in association with Maham Enterprises and Seaya and print partners The New Indian Express, the four-hour-long live musical extravaganza is expected to see a crowd of over 75,000 spectators.

Expected to perform superhits from Thalapthy (Sundari Kannal and Kaatu Kuyile), Mouna Ragam (Nilaave Vaa and Mandram Vandha) and Thenpandi Seemaiyile—sung in his own voice for Nayagan, the music maestro’s set list for the city may draw parallels with his Chennai concert, opening with devotional numbers like Janani Janani, Om Shivonam, Ram Ram Hey Ram and end with crowd-favourites like Nama Singaari Saraku, Eai Aatha Aathorama and Podhuvaga En Manasu Singam.

On June 9. Passes start at Rs 500.
