Legs and bikinis: Have you no shame?

Seems the national pastime has moved on from cricket to body shaming
Legs and bikinis: Have you no shame?

Virals threads! While some of it makes us laugh, some make us sit down and google the definition of common sense. Despite the soon to be ‘developed country’ aura that we are trying to project across aspects ranging from administration to employment opportunities, the true nature of desi often shines through social media. Especially so, when it comes to being online vigilantes of morality. And the instances inspired by such sensibilities appear to have peaked during the month of June, with a frequency of one controversy per week. While the subjects in discussion range from body shaming to ‘izzat’, the leading ladies of the industry have made it clear that they will not bow down. At Indulge, we believe that these brave actors, with their subtle yet sassy retorts, deserve a round of applause. Here’s the how and why of it. Read on.

Deepika Padukone
Bollywood actors on the cover of Maxim have always been a point of contention. If it was Priyanka Chopra’s armpit last time, the xXx actor’s legs managed to do it this month. For those who got offended by the cover image—which sports more than 50,000 likes on Instagram—the actor dropped two more images in the same attire, which went on to receive 60,000 plus likes each.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu
Now this one might be the most outrageous of all.  The beloved fashionista of South India didn’t really post an image of her but a bikini, which was shunned by a fan as disgraceful. The person even went on to lecture her about the “impact she has on younger generation” coupled with  a plea to her fiancee and Tollywood star Naga Chaitanya to watch her wardrobe. Samantha, however, isn’t the suffer in silence kinda girl. Her twitter handle read “Generations will learn what exactly. That you will be judged not by character but by what you wear. Shame on you and your shallow thinking.” You go girl!

Fatima Sana Shaikh
The furore over the Dangal actor’s photoshoot in a bikini for GQ India during the holy month of fasting soon escalated into a religious discussion over what’s right or wrong. While the first image in black and white—which amassed over 39,848 likes on Instagram—kindled the controversy, the artiste’s reply to the issue was a kodak quality version of the same picture, which received support in the form of 66,3000 likes.

Priyanka Chopra
Despite being named as one of the most influential personalities by the Times magazine, Priyanka didn't have it easy when it came to the length of her attire. Though the actress was bullied across platforms with regard to her “disrespectful pose and clothing” at the occasion of meeting PM Narendra Modi in Berlin, Pinky chops couldn’t care less. And we can always count on her to come back with the perfect remark. More legs!
