Vidya Balan to play Indira Gandhi in a web series

The web series is based on Sagarika Ghose's book, Indira: India's Most Powerful Prime Minister.

Actress Vidya Balan, who is currently shooting for NTR’s biopic, will soon be seen in yet another biopic, where she will portray India’s first woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. However, this time, the medium is a web series. In a recent interview with a media organisation, the actress confirmed the news and said that the series will be based on journalist and author Sagarika Ghose’s book, Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister.

Although there were speculations earlier that the book would be turned into a feature film, the Kahaani-actress explained that due to a large amount of text, producers have decided to adapt it into a web series. “There is too much material for it to be made into a film. So, we decided to turn it into a web series. We don’t know how many seasons we will be allotted to it. We are in the process of putting together a team,” she said.

The show will be produced by Ronnie Screwvala. Talking about her role in NTR biopic, she said, “It is my first Telugu film, so I am very excited as I have never spoken and delivered dialogues in other languages. I did a small appearance in a Malayalam film but here I have a full-fledged role,” the actor told PTI. Balan will be essaying the role of NTR’s wife Basavatarakam in the film.
