Over one million people are now sheltered in more than 3,000 relief camps in Kerala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Monday, even as the floods killed 387 people. The Chief Minister has requested people to make generous contributions towards the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. Meanwhile, celebrities from across the country have made their donations to help the state fight floods. Malayalam industry’s superstars, Mohanlal and Mamoothy, donated Rs 25 lakh each towards the relief fund. According to reports, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) have given Rs 50 lakh in two instalments to the chief minister. Actor Tovino Thomas reportedly announced that victims can stay in his house, where he will also provide basic necessitates for them until everything comes under control.

Just met the hon’ble CM of Kerala. I understand the state needs more funds than relief material. Please donate generously to ”CMDRF”. #Keralafloods #CMDRF @CMOKerala pic.twitter.com/hyV2AG1YA5

Rang De Basanti actor Siddharth played an active role during the 2015 Chennai floods and this time, he proved himself again by starting a social media challenge to encourage people to make monetary contributions for Kerala. He posted on his Twitter account saying: “I implore you to contribute whatever you can to this urgent cause. Please post your donation proof online if you wish to inspire others to do the same. Let us call this the #KeralaDonationChallenge. We all know how much the internet loves a challenge.” He also attached a picture of a bank letter making Rs 10 lakh donation. Apart from Siddharth, other Tamil actors including Kamal Hassan, Suriya-Karthi and Vijay Sethupathi too made their contribution of Rs 25 lakh, while Dhanush donated 10 lakh rupees.

People of Kerala will always occupy a special place in my heart for the unmatchable Love & Affection they shower . Their Love & the Loss is Unmatchable. But still I take the Honour to do my bit. I hereby pledge to donate 25,00,000 for the #KeralaFloodRelief . Love “M”Allu Arjun

Rowdies, let's all pitch in small amounts and we may make a huge change to someone like us in Kerala. Here, I'll start us off with 5,00,000/- #KeralaFloodRelief pic.twitter.com/dWF9x0js1c

On the other end, Bollywood has stars have tweeted expressing their sympathy towards the flood victims. Shah Rukh Khan’s Meer Foundation has donated Rs 21 lakh to a relief group working amongst flood victims, while actress Jacqueline committed to donate Rs 5 lakh to NGO Habitat for Humanity India's Kerala Flood Relief Programme. Filmmaker Priyadarshan reportedly handed over his and actor Akshay Kumar's cheque to Kerala Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund.

Sushant soon responded and wrote that he'll donate in his name and make sure that it reaches to the people in need. Later, Sushant posted a screenshot of his contribution, along with the Instagram conversation he had with the fan. “As promised, my friend, @subhamranjan66, what you wanted to do, has been done. You made me do this, so be extremely proud of yourself. You delivered exactly when it was needed. Lots and lots of love. Fly. Cheers.” Sushant has also changed his profile picture on Twitter to a picture of Kerela map. Gold actor Kunal Kapoor has also raised about Rs. 1.5 crore through his crowdfunding website Ketto. The money will be used to help NGOs and organisations working in Kerala.
