Happy B'day Rahman: Did you know that he has a street named after him in Canada?

Today as the maestro celebrates his 51st birthday, we bring to you six things that you didn't know about the Mozart of Madras

Ever since he composed the tunes for Roja in 1992, AR Rahman has been the benchmark for music composers in India and abroad. Everyone regardless of their language has enjoyed his music and tunes alike. Today, as he rides high on the success of more than 165 films across different film industries, the 51-year-old just gets better and better everytime he is in his studio. 

Here are a few facts about the maestro, that you probably didn't know. 

AR Rahman’s famous Urvasi soundtrack was recreated by THE Will.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas for It’s my Birthday 

The Maestro was also a member of SuperHeavy, a music group that comprised Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Damian Marley, and Dave Steward. Off their self-released album, Rahman released a single track Satyameva Jayathe, which had Indian classical influence to it. 

A street in Ontario, Canada is named Allah Rakha Rahman in honour of the composer himself. 

The Chennai-based composer was the first Indian to win two Oscars in the same year for Slumdog Millionaire

Did you know he also composed the musical for Lord of the Rings in London? 

The composer started his career initially by doing background music and jingles for advertisements until Mani Ratnam approached him with his first project — Roja. 

With more than two decades into the music industry, he’s known for his music which is a combination of western sounds with Hindustani and Carnatic influence. For more magical tracks to come, we wish this musical magician a happy birthday.
