Canadian rapper Smoke Dawg killed at 21 in nightclub shooting

Smoke was part of Toronto's growing rap scene and featured in a documentary called NORTHSIDE about the city.

A Toronto nightclub shooting claimed the life of rapper Jahvante Smart, better known as Smoke Dawg. The rapper is survived by a one-year-old daughter, his parents and 13 siblings. Rapper Drake paid tribute to the budding artist who hails from Regent Park in the city. 

According to a report by a leading music website, Smoke was one among three people shot outside Cube nightclub in broad daylight. The incident which evolved into a chaos resulting in all three of them being hospitalized. Rappers Nathan Miller and Mustafa the Poet, the director of NORTHSIDE, a documentary on Toronto's growing rap scene which featured Smoke, all confirmed the death of the rapper with tributes on social media.

A statement released by Smoke Dawg’s representative said that Smoke had overcome poverty, and touched the lives of people around him always. He also always had a smile on his face and was remembered for his glowing personality.
