The executive producer of popular television show Ek Veer Ki Ardaas… Veera was on Monday sentenced to seven years in prison, by a special women’s court for raping an actress on set. The producer Mukesh Mishra, raped the 31-year-old actress in 2012, at the studio in Mumbai’s suburban locality, Powai.

According to various media reports, the victim said that the producer asked her to reach Jogeshwari railway station where the bus was supposed to pick up artists. However, when she reached, Mukesh came to pick her up on the bike and told her that the bus was late. She went on to add that at the studio there was nobody else except the sweeper and when she was in her make-up room, he locked the door and raped her. According to her statement, she said that when she tried to resist, he threatened to kill her daughter. However, she immediately told her husband about the incident but did not reveal the details of the harassment. While her husband immediately complained to her producer, Mukesh was immediately sacked.

The victim filed a complaint in January 2013, after he threatened to destroy her reputation and career, and told the husband about the rape. She said that she did not file the complaint earlier as she feared it would end her career and reputation and for her daughter’s safety.
