Alia Bhatt’s sister opens up about her long battle with depression; says she had suicidal thoughts
A lot of Bollywood actors have spoken about their battle with depression and even though it is tough to talk about, they are still coming forward. In the most recent revelation, Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt’s sister has spoken up about her battle with depression and how she has been struggling to deal with it since she was 12 years old.
In an interview with a leading publication, Shaheen Bhatt, Alia’s elder sister, urged people to talk about mental illness even more than before. She also went to add that she has been suffering from depression for over 17 years now and has had suicidal thoughts on many occasions. Shaheen said that she even experienced the sheer terror of contemplating a life filled with unrelenting anguish and has been consumed by the terrifying thought of having but a single means of escape from a bleak, unbearable future.
Shaheen Bhatt in her note about depression also addressed the suicides of fashion designer Kate Spade and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain. She said that when she heard the news on her phone through various notifications she did not believe it but then her mind immediately flared saying “on no, not another one”. Alia Bhatt immediately shared the post on her Twitter account talking about Shaheen and how she always speaks her heart out and without any hesitation addresses the giant elephant in the room being mental health and the lack of our understanding and acceptance of the illness.
