Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan is doing wonders with all kinds of films and in his latest achievement, the actor’s Bangladeshi film Doob is the official entry for the country at Oscars 2019. The film which was initially banned in Bangladesh has been directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki will be among the nominations for the Best Foreign Film category.

The film was controversial because it was apparently about late Bangladeshi writer and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed. While the director denied it was a biopic, the film did get a No Objection certificate from the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation and released on October 27 in 2017. Irrfan Khan, who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer in the US, plays the lead in the film as a successful director going through a midlife crisis before he marries his daughter’s childhood friend causing a huge scandal.

An Indo-Bangladesh co-production, the film Doob also features Parno Mittra from India, and Nusrat Imrose Tisha and Rokeya Prachy from Bangladesh. The film has already won several accolades and has taken inspiration from a real-life story that shook the foundation of the judgemental Bangladesh Muslim society.
