With Ragini MMS Returns 2, Antara Banerjee sheds her ideal bahu image

TV actor Antara Banerjee takes a big leap in her career with Ragini MMS Returns 2 that is set to hit the web platform soon. Having acted in serials like Kausatii Zindagii Kay and Badhu Balika, epitomising traditional Indian women, the 24-year-old promises a change this time. The Kolkata born, self-confessed shopaholic doesn’t divulge it all when talking about her ‘juicy character’in the popular erotica-horror drama —  however, she does tell us about not limiting herself to a particular kind of role, exploring new genres and more. Tell us about your role in Ragini MMS Returns 2?

It’s a juicy character and the viewers will have fun exploring this different side of me in the web series. Though I cannot divulge much about the character, I should inform that I am there from the first episode to the last one. This is completely different from what you have done so far.

Are you ready to shun the ideal bahu image?

I cannot play the same role all my life. As an actor, I want to explore new characters and challenge myself with tough roles. I have always been inclined towards acting, and I believe that acting and dance are a medium of expression. This is your first erotica-horror project.

How was it exploring new genres?

Working in Ragini MMS felt like doing a film because of the production value attached to the franchise. The format is absolutely different from TV. While on a TV series you have to exaggerate your emotions, here it’s about natural acting or org anic response to a situation.  To be frank, I was nervous on the first day but my team made me so comfortable that I ended up giving perfect shots. It was a fine ride, right from the start. We shot some part of the series in Manali and those 20 days on the sets were a different kind of experience. In fact, working with my co-stars Divya Agarwal and Varun Sood has been amazing. From reel friends, we have become real friends.

What are your future projects?

Some retakes for Ragini is still left so I will be completing that first. And, I am concentrating on doing more web series. Also, my target will be to do different kinds of roles and I am confident that the digital platform will provide me with that. Apart from that, since I always wanted to act in films, so I would like to work towards that in 2020.
