MAKING HER WEB series debut with Zoom Studio’s The Holiday, Adah Sharma will be seen in a never-before-seen avatar. Taking a break from serious roles, Mumbai-based Adah, who made her Bollywood debut 11 years back in the horror film 1920, shares her excitement on playing the role of Mehak, an effervescent girl. She talks about the series and unwinding with co-stars Priyank Sharma, Aashim Gulati and Veer Rajwant Singh while shooting in Mauritius. Excerpts:

Your character Mehak looks like a fun one—with multi-coloured hair, quirky nail paints...

Yes. It’s for the first time that I am doing a fun role. People will get to see a very different side of me which was restricted to my Instagram account.

The character must be so relatable...

It is the closest ‘me’ that I have played on-screen so far. Otherwise, I have played the role of a possessed woman in the horror film 1920, a very simple role in Hasee Toh Phasee, and even in Commando 2, I played a serious role. When the director asked us to be ourselves, all four of us fully embraced our roles.

Playing yourself must be easy then?

We were definitely comfortable in our own skin, but we had to be cautious to not end up overacting. The storyline of the web series is about your bachelorette party in Mauritius with your boy gang.

How was it working with Priyank, Aashim and Veer?

They are all mad. I am mad too. The 20 days in Mauritius was a roller- coaster ride. They bro-zoned me! We ate, danced, laughed and even went to the gym together.

What is your gang in real-life like?

I have a mix of both boys and girls. My school friends are still my very good friends.

This is your debut web series. What took you so long to choose a script?

I was waiting for the right opportunity to come. I did a short film Moh, and I was overwhelmed by the reactions. So, I knew the web content is extremely good and I didn’t want to do the same kind of roles. When I was approached to play Mehak, I instantly said yes because it’s a very different story. There are many films themed on friendship, like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Dil Chahta Hai, and Veere Di Wedding, but those were centred around either boys or girls. This has a different flavour. One girl and her boy gang heading to Mauritius to celebrate her bachelorhood. It was much fun.

What is your idea of an ideal holiday?

An ideal holiday is not judged by a fancy location but it’s about the people that you go with and The Holiday shoot in Mauritius is one such holiday. I didn’t even feel that I was there for work despite working for 14 hours  a day.

What next after The Holiday?

I will be back with the third installation of Commando as Bhavana Reddy which will release in September. Also, I am doing a very interesting film Man to Man, where I will be playing the character of a man who undergoes sex reassignment surgery.
