In a major win for Ilaiyaraaja, the Madras High Court has ruled that the maestro holds all rights over his compositions.

The Court was hearing a civil suit filed by the music composer in 2014 asking to restrain Malaysia-based music label Agi Music, Echo Recording, Giri Trading Company and a few others from monetising his songs without his permission.

The other case filed against Echo Recording company was also heard today by Judge Anitha Sumanth. The judge ordered that Ilayaraaja’s composition can only be used in theatres and his composition should not be used in online music portals, radio stations and reality shows.

Ilayaraja had filed a case against Echo under royalty issues in 2014.
