Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn has been brought back as director of the franchise after he was removed in July 2018. The director was fired over several controversial tweets about paedophilia and rape from a decade ago which reappeared, but after several meetings and discussions, Disney has brought the director back.

Earlier, Disney had said that the tweets were unacceptable in the #MeToo era and were not in line with Disney's family-friendly image. However, after he was rehired, Gunn released a statement saying he was "grateful to every person out there who has supported me over the past few months." Adding to the lengthy note, the Marvel director said he is constantly learning and will continue to work at being the best human being he can be. He also expressed happiness and appreciated Disney’s decision and said he was “excited to continue making films that investigate the ties of love that bind us all”. He ended by saying that he was incredibly humbled by the support of all the fans and everybody who believed in him for their love and support.

Interestingly, James Gunn had also received support from the Guardians Of The Galaxy actors including Chris Pratt, who shared a letter on Instagram. In the letter, Chris said it did take the actors some time to process the information and while they do not support James’s inappropriate jokes from years ago, the latter is a good man. On a lighter note, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi tweeted in surprise saying he thought he was going to be the director after many fans had suggested his name for the role.
