The Star Trek franchise has been rebooted in the past few years with Star Trek in 2009, Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013 which both had JJ Abrams as a director, and finally Star Trek Beyond in 2016 with Justin Lin.
The latest update is set to come from director Quentin Tarantino, who pitched an idea for a new Star Trek film. JJ Abrams has agreed to plan and organise a writers' room on the pitch accroding to The Hollywood Reporter.
While Paramount had preciously announced that they were working on a new film for the franchise, no director had been announced. There have been no further confirmations from the studio, but Tarantino is expected to fill the role of director.
