Race 3

Bollywood music fans who have hits such as Hawayein (Jab Harry Met Sejal), Zaalima (Raees), Radio Song (Tubelight), Boyfriend Girlfriend (Raabta) and Kar Gayi Chull (Kapoor & Sons) on loop will agree that it’s the musical hooks that make the songs special.

The man behind these hits, who comes up with such creative sounds is music producer Sourav Roy. Sourav who has also worked on other popular songs like London Thumakda (Queen) and Jabra Fan (Fan) is working on the upcoming films Race 3 and the Sanjay Dutt biopic. “The song I’ve worked on for Race 3 is almost done and will be releasing soon. It’s a peppy club track,” says the music producer.

Having worked on a variety of tracks from romantic and situational to club and emotional, Sourav says he has been lucky to get songs through which he is able to innovate and experiment with different sounds. While he is working on the commercial thriller Race 3 which stars Salman Khan, Sourav also talks about his work on Rajkumar Hirani’s Dutt biopic. “These two are completely different films with distinct sounds. While for Race 3, I kept in mind today’s contemporary and international sounds, for the biopic, it’s essentially Indian — the music is situational and the sounds are organic,” explains Sourav.

Even as the audience waits for the new numbers, there are a lot of hits that Sourav has already delivered. Influenced by the likes of Laxmi-kanth Pyarelal, RD Burman, AR Rahman, David Guetta and U2, Sourav says he always seeks to incorporate new elements. “I understand that we cater to the Indian masses and most of my numbers come with a mass appeal, but I always try to offer something new because a song needs to appeal to the people,” says the producer who has also composed the signature tune for the newly launched channel Colors Tamil.
