Pakeezah actor, Geeta Kapoor passed away this morning at an old age home in Mumbai. The news was confirmed by filmmaker Ashoke Pandit who posted updates on his Twitter page. The actor has acted in several Bollywood movies but she is best known for her role in Pakeezah.
The film, directed by Kamal Amrohi, saw Meena Kumari playing the lead role and Geeta Kapoor played Rajkumar's second wife. Geeta Kapoor's son, Raja is a choreographer and her daughter Pooja, is an air hostess. Last year, the actor was in the news because she was abandoned by her son, Raja after he admitted her to the hospital. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit and Race 3 director Ramesh Taurani stepped forward to pay her hospital bill, while her son refused to call or come to sign a NOC to move his mother to an old age home.
"#LateActressGeetaKapoor’s friends at the Old Age Home bidding her final Goodbye. They all were in tears and under shock. Better than her own kids who abandoned her. An unforgettable & heart-wrenching experience of mine," the filmmaker tweeted. The filmmaker said he hopes her son would come to do the last rites, if not, he was willing to do it himself. The late actor's body will be at Cooper Hospital Vileparle for two days in hopes that her children would come.
