Sumeet Vyas has been working non-stop. The actor who shot to fame with the web series Permanent Roommates has had a busy year since 2017 when he started shooting for two films — High Jack and Veere Di Wedding, the latter releases today. But just before the release of the film, Sumeet was on a break, trekking in the mountains of Uttarakhand. “My journey so far in Bollywood has been like a trek,” he says. “It’s been long and in between, I felt lost, but it’s been a fulfilling journey and I wouldn’t want to change anything,” says Sumeet who is cast opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan in Veere Di Wedding.

From the trailer and songs of the film, it is evident that amongst the male actors, it’s Sumeet who has maximum screen time with the four women protagonists. Ask him how different it was to work with so many women and he says, “I’d rather say I worked with a team of efficient people. I have worked with women and have been directed by women in my earlier films like Parched, English Vinglish and Ribbon. I never felt I specifically worked with women. So even in Veere, I say I have worked with some really fantastic people who make the job look so easy, but when you go out there to perform, you realise it isn’t that easy after all,” he says.

Talking about Kareena, Sumeet says she is an extremely disciplined actress who does her homework and is clued into everything that’s happening on the sets. Recollecting an anecdote from the shoot, Sumeet says that while it was a challenge for him to lip sync and dance (he would rehearse for at least three to four days), Kareena was an ace. “I remember for the sangeet song, Shashanka (Ghosh, director) told Kareena, ‘your steps are too perfect, it shouldn’t look like you know everything, you need to look slightly imperfect.. like Sumeet’. In my mind, I was killing it with my dance moves, but clearly Shash-anka didn’t think so,” he says with a laugh.
