We have all grown up with fables and fairytales. Watching classics such as Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne and Hirak Raja’r Deshe, reading Thakuma’r Jhuli, Thakurda’r Jhuli and Dadamashayer Thale made our summer afternoons completeGiven all of these shaped large chunks of our childhood memories, what could be better than watching bits of them coming back to life?

This summer, director Aniket Chattopadhyay promises to create magic, yet again, on the big screen with his next film Hobu Chandra Raja Gobu Chandra Mantri and Kabir Suman will be donning the cap of a music director for this project after a significant gap. “We had worked together for Shankar Mudi and it’s always a pleasure to have a legend like him on the sets. He will also be seen doing a cameo for the movie,” revealed Chattopadhyay.

The film is based on two tales from Dakshinaranjan Mitra Majumder’s book Dadamashayer Thale, namely the tale of Hobu Chandra Raja and Sarkar’er Chhele. “Initially Dev was to play the role of the king, however due to conflicting schedules an alternative is being looked for,” informed the director. Rukmini Maitra and Kharaj Mukhopadhyay will be seen playing roles of the queen and Gobuchandra Mantri respectively.

The film is currently in pre-production and will go on floors by mid-February.
