Actor Jaya Ahsan bags Bangladeshi National Award for the fourth time, with Debi

Just when the news of the fourth National Award came on her way, Bangladeshi actor Jaya Ahsan was busy giving interviews in Dhaka before the premiere of Konttho, her superhit Tollywood film in West Bengal.

This year, too Jaya received Bangladesh's National Award for the best female actor for her movie Debi (2018). Besides Devi, Putro which received the best film award also had Jaya in the cast.

The visibly thrilled actor is naturally overwhelmed by the recognition for her work. "It's the highest honour that one can receive. What better award can there be? I am further encouraged to do even better work in the future and do my country proud," tells Jaya from Bangladesh over the phone.

The film Debi is a supernatural thriller based on Bangladeshi author Humayun Ahmed's eponymous novel, which traces the life of Ranu, who possesses supernatural powers. The film has been jointly produced by Jaya's production company C For Cinema and the Bangladeshi government.

Earlier she received Bangladeshi National Awards for best actress in Guerilla (2011), Chorabali (2012) and Zero Degree (2013).

The actor has carved a very popular niche for herself in Tollywood with her great acting skills and looks to match. Ever since her debut here in Arindam Sil's Aborto in 2013 she has worked with almost all the renowned filmmakers including National Award-winning directors Kaushik Ganguly, Srijit Mukherji and Atanu Ghosh.

Her role in Kaushik Ganguly's hit film Bisorjon was widely appreciated and the film too won a National Award. She also had a crucial role in Srijit Mukherji's Ek Je Chilo Raja, which too got the National Award for Best Bengali film this year. Her other film Konttho by Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy that released this year, saw her playing a speech therapist. Konttho went on to become one of the superhit films this year and had its premiere in Dhaka today.

One of the busiest actors in Tollywood now, Jaya has just completed shooting for Atanu Ghosh's Robibar opposite Tolly king Prosenjit Chatterjee that's slated for a December release. She will also be seen in Ghosh's other film, Bini Sutoy, opposite actor Ritwick Chakraborty. 

Besides, she just wrapped up shooting for Soukarya Ghosal's film Bhootpori, where she plays the lead and will start shooting for Kaushik Ganguly's next from mid-November, that also stars Chruni Ganguly.
