Filmmaker Anik Dutta's upcoming film Borunbabur Bondhu starring legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee has been selected to be screened as the opening film of the Bengali Panorama at the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival that begins tomorrow.

Adapted from Ramapada Chowdhury's story, Chhad, the film is about an octogenarian, played by Soumitra, who has isolated himself from society at large and his immediate family apart from his one friend who visits him every day and his grandson. Others too avoid him since he is a bit aloof and reclusive and often abrasive.

"Soumitra's character is not being able to adjust to things around him though he is very modern in his thinking and outlook and sees a lot of regressive things going around. But suddenly something happens when an old friend shows up and Borun becomes very important to everyone. He doesn't like this sudden attention and the story proceeds from there," tells filmmaker Anik Dutta.

Besides Soumitra, the film also stars Arpita Chatterjee, Ritwick Chakraborty, Madhabi Mukherjee, Paran Bandyopadhyay, Sreelekha Mitra, Kaushik Sen and Bidipta Chakraborty among others and is produced by Surinder Films.
Borunbabur Bondhu will be screened on November 9, 6 pm at Rabindra Okakura Bhavan near City Centre 1, Salt Lake
