Supper theatre: Catch three plays as dinner is served with a dash of drama and a sprinkle of emotion

SheHe Korma by Coimbatore Art & Theatrical Society delves into the life of a married couple

Dinner just got served with a dash of drama and a sprinkle of emotion! Catch three short plays by Black Box Theatre being staged in an exclusive supper theatre experience. The concept was popular in the 1980s and ’90s, and recently saw several plays being staged across the city in the same format.
The director KV Siddhartha, who runs CATS (Coimbatore Art & Theatrical Society), is also the producer of the play titled, SheHe Korma. The three plays — Milk Account, The Key and In Search of Truth — have all been selected from the book The Tamil Story, which carries a selection of 88 short stories translated from Tamil into English by Subrashree Krishnaswamy.

“This is the first production that we are bringing to Chennai,” says Siddhartha, adding, “We did a play reading session before telling the team what it was for. SheHe Korma has some cute and quaint stories about a husband and a wife, all three set in different periods.” While Milk Account is set in Madras 1940, The Key is set in 1970 in Coimbatore. The third play, In Search of Truth is set in the year 1980, in Bengaluru.” Siddhartha believes it’s the play, the dinner, the bar counter and the length of the play that will lead to the success of the show. While they have done 90 minute plays in the past, this one will be shorter at 75 minutes. The cast comprises Ramesh Chandran, Ambujakshi Shankar, Saru and Samy. This is expected be the first of many similar shows at the hotel.
