It's being called Demi Moore’s most daunting opposition yet — the Lyon clan from the show Empire. Demi plays Nurse Claudia, who’s working with Lucious (Terrence Howard) to help him regain his memory after the explosive events of last season’s finale. But can Claudia be trusted? To find out, we chat with the actress about on-screen dynamics, maintaining integrity and the element of choice. Excerpts from the conversation:

What is most exciting about this season of Empire?
There is a moment that, I think, is very intriguing, where I’m assisting Dwight (Walker aka Lucious Lyon, portrayed by Terrence Howard) in getting into the bath.

Describe the working dynamic between your character Claudia, Lucious and Cookie.
The dynamic is very different from the past with other women, where there was a conflict or fight to win Lucious’ affection. So this isn’t about the man. This is about (her character) Nurse Claudia seeing an opportunity to protect the innocence of someone who was lost when she was nine years old. Down the rabbit hole where there wasn’t always integrity in his choices. And I have certain rules and ways in which things must be done.

What happens with you as his nurse?
He has brain trauma, and Nurse Claudia’s a specialist in memory recovery. For me, he’s not Luscious. Through its course, I’m finding the core of a gentle soul that’s corrupted, which I’m trying to save.

What continues to surprise you about Empire?
What Empire has accomplished in the world of music, maintaining a level of integrity — the songs should be on the radio, they’re not dumbed down versions, but right up there at that level.

Anything more we can expect of Nurse Claudia’s character?
So far, the character is just Nurse Claudia, but she has a hidden past as you know, and so the character is not fully flushed out. So I think we will have some really great places to go. Anything on Empire is possible. My goal is to help Lucious recover his memory problem.

Where will the script take the show?
That’s difficult to answer, but everything that I have wrapped up into this so far is succeeding in bringing him back — the question is, which part of him am I inclined to bring back.

How have international audiences responded to Empire?
It is super new. It hasn’t aired enough with me in it. The little scene that I was in last season, it was just a taster, and I don’t know if you’re sure what it was. So, that remains to be seen.

So, who’s the maid at home?
[Laughs] I am the maid, I like to keep things tidy.

Season 4 of Empire airs on Star World and Star World HD every Sunday at 10 PM.
