It's official! The much-loved Downton Abbey movie is finally happening
It is Saturday and we have some good news that can cheer up this weekend! The Downton Abbey movie is actually happening. The Crawleys are set to make a comeback on the big screen and it has now been confirmed after much speculation. The official Twitter account of the series announced this on Friday. Most of the members of the principal cast will begin production later this summer. Also, the official announcement included a photo for an invitation that reads, “We cordially invite you to return to Downton Abbey. Only in Cinemas.” However, nothing has been announced about the plot or the release date of the film yet! We do hope we get to see Lady Sybil Crawley, whose untimely death left many fans deeply saddened.
The show's creator Julian Fellowes has written the film's screenplay, and he is also going to co-produce as well. The series, which chronicles the Crawley family at the turn of 20th Century, ran for six seasons before ending in 2015. It also received 15 Primetime Emmy awards and 69 nominations. It won for best miniseries or movie in 2011, before rule changes forced it into the drama series category.
