Dance they say transcends boundaries set by the mind and heart. The fluidity of dance helps one release tension and opens the body and soul to absorbing positivity from all around. This weekend, Brinda Jacob-Janvrin, a well-known contemporary dancer, choreographer and dance therapist is hosting, To Move and Be Moved - Authentic Move-ment Workshop, where participants will explore authentic movement practices, body work and creative art expressions.
The workshop primarily focuses on authentic movement that is a subtle, yet powerful therapeutic practice. The dancer or the mover moves with closed eyes in the presence of a witness. This helps the person understand the body through deeper awareness and expression. Joan Chodorow, a Jungian analyst and dance therapist had highlighted this by saying, “The roots of this work can be traced to earliest human history when disease was seen as a loss of soul and dance was an integral part of the healing process.”
Through this workshop, individuals can also develop their kinesthetic awareness, empathy, mindfulness and a sense of embodied presence. They will develop this sense as they explore the relationship between creative, psychological and sacred dimensions of their experience through bodily expression. The workshop is open to therapists, dancers, artistes, trainers, teachers and anyone who is interested in practising mindfulness.
