Kuchipudi Duet at Saptaparni

Washington DC-based Vijay Palaparty, founder, co-artistic director and president of Spilling Ink, and Hyderabad-based Srikala Jwala, director of Lasya Priya, will present a classical South Indian Kuchipudi dance recital, a repertoire-based program that highlights the creative scope of the dance form along with the importance of going back to tradition to sustain relevance. In the margam format—a traditional repertoire program—the pieces they will present are mostly classical choreographies, which they learned from the esteemed Kuchipudi dance guru, Dr K Uma RamaRao. The works comprise the form’s centuries-old tradition that balances dramatic expression with technical, rhythmic aspects.
