The latest pop-up by Swati Jalan with a unique title Obedient Housewives raised our curiosity and when we stepped into the two-day exhibition in Alipore, we discovered a fashionable meaning behind such an eyebrow-raising title.
Meant for women who are obedient to their wishes, the exhibition presented by The Watering Can that completes five years, was edgy and dramatic. Swati’s low maintenance collection that included flamboyant silhouettes is for the ones who want to make a statement. Crushed fabric with a flirtatious flow made the collection vibrant. Dresses, capes and shrugs can be found in this edit. We loved a bright red overlay that Swati suggested could be worn with a sari.
Another piece that caught our attention made us wonder if it was a long skirt with a trail but demystifying the bespoke piece Swati informed that it was a dress. The full-length dress in shades of dark blue and grey with box sleeves would make anyone a fashion queen. Apart from them, there were also breezy tops and beautiful skirts, for everyday fashion.
