As the festive day arrives, it’s only natural that you want to look your best. But, the need to venture beyond the conventional kasavu attires while staying true to the Vishu kodi tradition is a conundrum that bothers us all. This week, we bring you four labels who’ve borrowed the colours of the golden rain tree (kanikonna) to gift you with the perfect look. By providing us with options including a revised
version of the age-old jacket and sari combo, these couturiers mean business.

Meet the jacket
Thrissur-based Seamstress is all set to bring the high neck blouses back in vogue with their brand new collection highlighting handwoven fabrics. Available in shades of beige with kalamkari prints, these button down blouses are enhanced with patch pocket detailing on their sleeves. To style these beauties for your season special wardrobe, pair them up with the brand’s multi-hued experimental Kerala sari featuring off white, biscuit and olive shades (Surraya from `3,750), or opt for a full-length skirt in muted tones. Blouses from `2,000 onwards. Details: facebook.com/seamstressindia

Get whimsical
Not everyone wants to wear a sari on days like this. When kurta options crowding the market starts getting on your nerves, trust Diya John’s Salt Studio to come up with the right outfit. This beige and gray number from her atelier, a minimal take on the colours associated with Vishu, is our favourite. Apart from the quirky high neckline enhanced with the beige folds, its uneven hemline (a raging trend that’s observed in SS 17 collections of designers including Antar-Agni) makes this one stand out.

Artisan’s pick
While it is easy to find a handwoven outfit for the occasion, it’s accessories that always elude us. The folks at Aambal Ecostore understand this dilemma well, which is why they are flying down the Mumbai-based sustainable label, Earthy Roots, to town this week. Having exhibited their handwoven totes and sling bag, adorned with ikat motifs, at platforms including Lakme Fashion Week, this is the three-year-old brand’s maiden venture to Kerala. Go green
Denouncing the popular colours of the season, Reshma Mannath from Label M is all for making bold statements with your Vishu wardrobe. Her pick from the brand’s SS17 collection, a vibrant bottle green straight cut salwar crafted in velvet, is the perfect choice for those who go against the grain. As for the festive part of it, the golden applique work featured in the body draws inspiration from the dainty kanikonna bunches.`12,000 onwards. Details: 4011607
