The Monkey Brain Co, a sustainable clothing brand from Jaipur, will be displaying its latest collections for the first time ever in Kolkata, on December 15 and 16 at the PC Chandra Gardens.

Co-founded by sisters Akshita Ratusaria and Vijayta M Ratusaria, The MonkeyBrain Co label is deeply inspired by all things 'nature' - and uses biodegradable natural fibre, while their fabrics are hand-woven. The garments feature modern silhouettes and are resplendent with hand embroidery, hand painting and block printing techniques.

There’s a fun element in their clothes and which is also reflected in their nomenclature. “The name was conceived while doodling a crazy Mojo Jojo from Power-puff girls. It reflects the spirit of our team to never stop evolving with the mix of modern silhouettes, nature-friendly fabrics and old school handicrafts with a hint of glamour,” says co-founder Akshita Ratusaria.

Their latest collection is divided into two beautiful stories - The Whites and The Summer Blocks.

The Whites

The capsule collection known as The Whites is meant for the gypsy hearts. It includes garments ranging from shirt dresses to off shoulder pullover dresses to fitting and flared styles. It’s an interesting mix of artsy, hip and street wear. "The Whites collection is inspired by laid-back activities like brunch dates, day concerts, luxury island holidays, exploring lavender fields and unknown streets of a new city," says Vijayta M Ratusaria. It reflects the brand’s love for all things handmade and natural as it involves the use of hand-woven Khadi to hand painted motifs and handcrafted tassels.

The summer Blocks

Meanwhile The Summer Blocks collection has also got a similar gypsy vibe but the prints and hues are bolder and wilder. Especially designed to showcase their love for nature, what really has our attention is that the roses and leaf prints on the garments are actual imprints of dried leaves and roses. The collection stays true to the easy and laid back essence of the brand and includes Kimono Shirt dresses, flared tunics and handkerchief style maxis. Soft and light natural fabrics like cotton, cotton moss, cotton linen, and Khadi have been used to keep the garments light and fresh.

Each garment tells a different story reflected by the pretty handcrafted details. The designs and elements used for embellishment might make one think of a collector picking fascinating bits and bobs along a nature trail and translating it into a sartorial parlance.

Their collection would be displayed at PC Chandra Gardens on December 15 and 16 from noon to 10 pm.
