Designer Yuvika Goli says she was always fascinated by the long-standing relationship between fashion and art. So her collection called Doodline fuses line art with contemporary doodles on long, flowy silhouette. The 18-year-old says, “The doodles I sketch and line art are spontaneous, made without a plan or an idea. Also, there’s always a story behind it.” The line art she uses for the collection comprises distinct lines placed against a plain background, without gradations in shade or hue, to represent three-dimensional objects.

The newbie designer launched her label last August with a studio in Himayath Nagar. She started designing in her adolescence, even before she began studying at The National Institute of Fashion Technology, Hyderabad. “My mom (city-based designer Renuka Goli) is a designer too, so I grew up around fabric cuttings and hustle-bustle of karigars. And this is what I always wanted to do,” she says.
Her capsule includes seven ready-to-wear outfits, crafted from khadi. The dresses called ‘girl in red lips’ and ‘lines and tulips’ are some of the bestsellers, remarks the designer. One can notice long easy-breezy cuts, hand-embroidered cherry blossoms motifs on the dresses apart from the doodles. Design highlights include collars and playful sleeves with kattana thread embroidery, beadwork, and sequins. The shade card for her present collection includes colours like pale blue, dusty blue with an occasional yellow. However, that’s likely to change soon. “When I met my clients at the Sunday Soul Sante exhibition a few days ago, they urged me to include black. So I will be adding new outfits in black and oxblood as well,” says the designer. Although most of the sketches and doodles are her own, she is also open to collaborating with her patrons, if they bring sketches of their own. “I could make sure that their doodle is embroidered on their chosen outfit,” offers Yuvika.
