Avama's temple jewellery collection is a piece of art
Avama Jewellers makes a bold statement, with a heady dose of history in their designs
OPULENT with heritage value and exclusive detailing, Avama Jewellers’ temple jewellery collection is aweinspiring, to say the least. The brand’s name translates to ‘The Lower Tier of the Sky’— referring to a space where the sparkle of their jewellery creates the impression of an ethereal galaxy. The year-old retail store at Vardhan Market, owned by Abhishek Kajaria, draws inspiration from majestic temple arts across India, while guiding a team of ace craftsmen in Ooty to create breathtaking pieces in 22-carat gold.
Avama uses the c e n t u r y - o l d a r t of sculpting on the p r e c i o u s m e t a l , giving their pieces a vintage feel. Motifs o f H i n d u d e i t i es including Krishna, Natraja, Ganesha, Laxmi, Shiva and Parvati form the central theme of the bespoke pieces. And, the detailing in each piece reflects the finesse of the skill of the goldsmith, who pays equal attention to simpler motifs of the peacock, cow, rat, swan and flowers. Made from single gold plates, the sizes of the statement pieces vary from four to six inches in height, and 100 gms in weight, each taking around three months to make. The matte-finished temple jewellery, held together with bold pearls of rudraksha, complement dressy ensembles as well a s s u b d u e d p r e f e r e n c e s w i t h equal elan. “This style has been copied by many, but none can replicate the finesse and quality that we ensure for our customers. We also offer customised designs for our buyers. The vision is to provide them with bespoke jewellery, and superior service, which are key to our success,” says Abhishek, who has been in the business for the past 23 years.
Apart from statement neck pieces, the vintage collection includes brace lets and bangles with animal motifs, such as of elephants, peacocks and more. The statement rings, above all, caught our eyes and we were quickly drawn to an intricately designed peacock perched on a ring.
