Zingbi, an eight-month-old fashion app, has been converted into a physical store in a span of just two weeks. The massive 7,700 sq ft store at Gopalapuram is a double-storied building with room for accessories, and even a video conference room for designers to correspond with clients. Bridal and wedding attire is on the first floor and ethnic and chic Indo-western outfits are on the second floor.

While Khader Nawaz Khan Road is usually the most sought-after shopping address, the owners here tell us that they prefer calmer surroundings. Only a week old, and they already have plans for pop-ups and two spacious trial rooms on every floor. Coming from diverse backgrounds, both founders, Mohan Ram Kumar who is a techie, and co-founder Dr R Karthikeyan, a management consultant-and-psychologist, hail from Chennai. “Right from receiving patrons at the entrance until they complete shopping, we want our shoppers to have a comfortable experience and multitude of options all under one roof. Even when you look around the store you see that there are seating corners everywhere,” says Dr R Karthikeyan.

With 30 designers already on board, they plan to update their collection every month. The store offers shoes and sandals made of handpainted and hand-woven ikat fabric from Chennai-based Madras Trunk, kurtas made of natural fabrics from Ahmedabad-based Tussah by Siddhi and saris with patchwork from Chennai-based Ambi by Sujata Pai,  among others. Adding on to it, the store already has a Valentine collection made of scuba fabric in red and black theme by Mumbai-based designer Adhya Krishnan. They have two styling experts and plans for an image consultant in future to help you dress according to your profession. “We initially wanted to open the store in Bengaluru but ended up opening in our hometown Chennai. Our next plan would be to expand globally, starting with the US and UK,” says Karthikeyan. You can also shop via their online portal.
