The one-year-old women’s premium fashion brand was created for the contemporary Indian women, shares the Italian designer. Having moved to India five years back to work as the Creative Director of  Raymond, Vito wanted to establish his brand in India before taking it global. “The SS19 Collection was developed on the ideas of an Indian heroine-one who is courageous, strong and independent,” says Vito, who has previously worked with brands like Prada, Helmut Lang, Costume National, Givenchy, Miu Miu, among others.

The collection, consists mainly of dresses, tops, trousers, skirts, and blazers.  Talking about his design inspirations for the collection, Vito says, “I have been influenced to work with concepts and connect the whole collection is some way. I try to be up to date on what is happening in the world. I let it all sink into me, and then I mix it all up and develop a concept. I’m always inspired by the moment, the place I’m at and the women I’m meeting in India. I’m not a cut and copy designer person, but I agree that we all take a bit from here and there.”

The collection features clothes primarily in natural fabrics such as satin silk, silk georgette, silk shantung, silk organza, fine cotton, and linens — sourced from places within India. Vito’s silhouettes are breezy and fluid, with contemporary cuts, ruffled sleeves and silk organza layers that are shaped like capes on the dresses. Talking further about the ideation behind the brand, Vito, who has been in the fashion industry for the past 30 years, says, “I feel India is a place that is changing quickly. Not only the number of working women have increased, but they are also traveling more, and have become more independent. Women here want to be more global now.  Domestic thinking has transformed into global thinking.  Their needs have changed as they are more independent and sure of themselves. And I wanted to create something for that woman.”

Inspired by the vibrancy of nature, the key tones in the colour palette are hues of golden brown, ruby red, peacock purple, and emerald green.“I wanted to create a collection that does not overpower them with tradition at the same time is not too direct and easy, focusing on exposing the body. I wanted to make something classic and timeless. One that moves with them, is a part of their personality and mainly, can be worn anywhere—be it Mumbai, Delhi, Paris, New York or London and still have the same impact,” shares Vito.
