Glimpses of Etar's new collection

Etar, a sartorial brainchild of Surat-based mother-daughter duo Parul and Nirali Chokhawala, might only be four-months-old but they have already launched their second collection, The Holiday Edit. The collection was launched at Anonym in Jubilee Hills a couple of days ago.

Subtle floral embroidery

After working closely with clusters, Nirali, the student of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Gandhinagar came back to start this project with her mother. “I considered my mom’s background in art and craft. She has been stitching outfits for others and herself for over 30 years. We wanted to stay true to our heritage, hence we chose the name ‘Etar’ which translates into something unique in Gujarati,” says the designer.

Walking On Air Dress

The Holiday Edit is a fusion collection that makes use of indigenous handcrafted cotton to create easy-to-wear dresses. “We tried to highlight that Indian fabric can be worn on your holiday destinations too. That apart, she has combined block printing with pure cotton fabric that’s obtained from weaving clusters around Gujarat. All the ensembles are available in two colour variations - French Rose Pink and Corn Yellow. Nirali insists on naming all her ensembles, she tells us with a smile, adding that a few highlights from the collection include the Day Spring and Walking on Air Dresses. While the first one includes strappy sleeves and gathers, the second one is for those who would like dressy bell sleeves with subtle floral embroidery on it. While the first one includes straps and gathers, the second one is for those who would like dressy bell sleeves with subtle floral embroidery on it. Expect functional silhouettes that include wrap-around and flowy dresses.
