Bailou and Kassa make their way to Brass Tacks this weekend
Bringing two exciting pop-ups to Bengaluru’s fashionistas this weekend is Brass Tacks, known for their handwoven garments made from natural fibres. In keeping with the label’s passion for Indian textiles and sustainability in fashion, the two brands who will be showcasing their products from their recent collections are Kassa Accessories and Bailou Sarees. “A huge reason for these pop-ups is because we’d like customers to experience being a part of a larger design movement that’s going on in India — one that’s driven by quality, skill, sustainability and good design,” says Anaka Narayanan, the brains behind Brass Tacks.
Bailou, which has been worn by stars like Vidya Balan, is known for its innovative take on Bengal saris. At the pop-up, expect a selection of cotton and linen saris with quirky details like pompoms stitched onto the fabric and jamdani weaves apart from some woven with sequins.
Those looking for offbeat accessories will not be disappointed with Kassa’s handcrafted clutches, totes and jewellery. Started by Aarushi Kumar and Arpan Patel, the Jaipur-based label is known to use repurposed material to create leather bags, eco-friendly accessories and for their penchant for geometrical and graphic motifs. “We met Anaka at Chennai during a Craft Council of India show and our mutual love for design saw us hit it off instantly,” says Aarushi. Their ‘tear-proof’ bags and wallets look like paper but are made from a hybrid material that can’t be torn and are 100 per cent recyclable and waterproof. Also expect their jewellery lines, One Of A Kind and Nuggets. While the former is sculptural and made from waste industrial brass pipes, the latter is inspired by charcoal forms.
