Statement necklines seem to be the calling card for designer duo Rutu Shah and Neeva Sheth, a characteristic that has carried forward into their label Rutu Neeva’s Fall 2017 Collection. Styling Bollywood A-listers like Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandez and Anushka Sharma among others, their idea of ‘conservative glamour’ is definitely catching on. “I think conservatism and glamour are often misconstrued as mutually exclusive ideas. Our thought process has been that you don’t need to bare it all to be perceived as elegant. There is a certain feminine charm to being looked on as the girl-next-door,” says the Mumbai-based designer Rutu Shah. Introducing their signature fit and flow silhouettes into the current collection, expect to find a range of whimsical dresses and free-flowing gowns in cotton lycra and polyester.

Crediting the colour palette to the festivities that Fall collections ring in, Rutu tells us that the line aims at being a 9to9 collection with hues getting deeper as the day progresses. The collection is dominated by shades of powder blue, pinks, ice mint, canary, scarlet, maroon, burgundy and bottle green and is “apt for day dos, evening soirées and late night parties”.

A delicate mix of fluid and structured silhouettes, the collection also showcases the androgynous side of today’s power woman featuring blouses with pleats and flared-bottomed pants besides the obvious sharp necklines. With the major focus on fit and form, the 30-year-old graduate of IES, Paris explains that the fabric detailing in the collection has been kept to a minimum with most apparel featuring intricate gatherings, pleats, soft ruffles and delicate overlays.
