Fuss-free summer dresses in khadi that can be layered with light jackets sounds perfect for our sultry weather. Indigene,a Delhi-based label has launched their Spring/Summer collection, titled Modest Luxury, in Hyderabad that allows patrons to pick from various combinations – like a khadi dress with a bundi jacket.

Recycle rules
Using scraps and re-purposed fabrics is the mantra that designer duo Jaya Bhatt and Ruchi Tripathi, who spearhead the label passionately, follow. Aptly, their new line is inspired by Japanese Boro Textile, which adheres to a strict no-wastage mandate. “We wanted to follow the eastern philosophy where even scraps are too precious to be thrown away,” says Jaya who started the brand with her NIFT classmate Ruchi in 2014.

Intricate patterns
The first thing that you notice about the ensembles is that they have breezy silhouettes with a hint of boho chic. Their latest repertoire comprises overlays, pintuck tops, jackets, dresses overlays, cropped jackets, bundi jackets and slip dresses. The colour palette ranges from soothing whites, greys and ochre. After designing a few outfits, the artisans use the scraps to make surface embellishments and embroidery as well, making sure not a bit goes to waste. The fabrics used range from khadi, linen and mulberry silk, and motifs are etched out in natural dyes. Also, intricate hand stitches add some drama to the ensembles.

Their latest collection is up for sale at Anonym, Jubilee Hills.
Price: Starts from Rs 4,500 onwards for khadi pintuck tops.
